I have a home entertainment center which has 8 mm glass shelves. How much weight can I safely place on each ?
They are supported by those small clips with a post which go into the predetermined holes which pair up on each side of the cabinets. I have two or three heavy pieces of stereo equipment which I’d like to place (and leave with confidence) on the glass shelving that came with the entertainment center.

8mm is thicker than 1/4 inch. You should be fine placing home audio components on 1/4 inch plate glass.
Do not put heavy equipment on the glass shelves. The bottom rack of these ‘units’ is the only one you can put an amp/receiver on. The other shelves are for light-weight units like a DVD player, Game system, cable box.
