What happened with the war bonds issued by the US govt during WW2?

Were the millions of working people who bought these ripped off or was it a good deal?

Did they get paid back? If so, was it at a good rate or were they ripped off by inflation?

What was the final outcome?

And what about inflation, which is surely the next risk? How do you stop inflation with more inflation?

I keep hearing that the alternatives are much worse, yet I have not seen clear evidence that they will, in fact, be much worse, in the short or long terms.

I’m selling my rental house next year and am trying to calculate what the sale price should be. What percentage profit should I expect to make from my original investment (say %100,000)? Inflation seems to have been about 2.9% over the 10 years of ownership. Because of the area it is in it will be easy to sell. I know some people will say, "get everything you can out of it" but my question still remains: What is reasonable?

clearly there are many wideopen legal thefts in the economy – as well as the illegal thefts – eg, buy land, others build city, landowners gets paid – eg, inflation an unjust tax – stockmarket reflects national infrastructure growth [created by every worker], & only stockholders get the gain

clearly the incomes & fortunes are extremely far from just – 225 ppl with as much as 2,500,000,000 ppl –
1% getting 90% of world income, & doing less than 1% of work

clearly transaction is inherently unjust [the two items have to have workvalue of x & x+y, ie have to be different - over trillions of transactions this will move earnings to nonearners steadily]
clearly 'after the first million money multiplies like rabbits' indicates injustice – ditto 'the first 00 harder to make than the second million' ie, ratio work/pay changes greatly

Beside the personal gain, what does buying a bond do to help the country? If another country were to buy bonds from us, how would that help us? How would it affect inflation?

By offering bailouts to Investment Houses, Mortgage Companies and corporations in trouble, so that they do not have to convert convertible bonds for at least 6 months? Meanwhile, these corporations can invest their borrowed money in the stock market and deriviatives, bouncing stocks, to achieve higher profits at the expense of inflation from the bidding up of commodities?

With the Dow jones loosing 400 points the worst loss scince 911 are we seeing America starting to burst at the seems?

The Chinese are now diversifing their intake of american dollars from American consumption by investing more into Gold , Euros , Pounds and the Yen which is weaking the USA dollar

There is no way the Chinese are going to Finance another war for Bush with Iran while the US dollar is falling .
Are we seeing the beginning of the end with the dimise of americaian eccomany and it becoming a country like Romania with high inflation and an annual wage of 10.000 to 15 000 per annam?

I am unclear on this. Do you want to buy bonds when stocks drop? When inflation goes up? When oil goes up? When the country is in a recession? It seems that bonds are more complicated than just buying them when stocks drop. Your detailed answers are appreciated.

I think that usually when inflation is expected, then regular bond prices go down, but since TIPS bonds are adjusted for inflation, is the relationship different?

BTW, I’m interested in bond prices, not yields.
