About GrumpyOlTrucker

Well here it is!

I’ve been thinking about and planning for this site for a long time. Many times over the years while driving the highways and byways of the United States and Canada I’ve thought, “If only I had a way to share some of my thoughts on various topics”.

I thought of writing a book, and who knows, some of the material in this blog may eventually find it’s way into a book. However, a book is a large undertaking, especially when one is still driving 2500 to 3000 miles a week in an attempt to make a living.

Welcome to the Grumpy Old Trucker’s blog.  I am the Grumpy Old Trucker and with very good reason.  I have been dragging freight up and down the highways of North America for most of the past 38 years.  I’ve had lots of opportunity to witness, and often be affected by, some of the stupidity and thoughtlessness in this part of the world.  I listen to a lot of news programs, talk radio, and worst of all, comments on the CB radio, and I have developed many thoughts on a variety of topics over the years.

A little about myself.  My name is Bill Gould and I have been driving truck for most of the past 38 years including 7.5 years with the Canadian Armed forces in the 70’s.  I’ve been married to my lovely wife Marilyn for 37 years in September and we have three sons and 5 grand children.

You may be wondering what you can expect to find within this blog and how will it be of any value to you.

You will find commentary and opinion on a wide variety of topics as seen through the eyes and imagination of this truck driver.  Not everything I have to say will be critical, there is good in this world too.  Most importantly I intend to try to sprinkle my comments with a little good natured humor and give credit whenever and wherever it’s due.  Some of you will agree with some of what I have say, some will disagree with all of what I have to say.  I don’t expect anyone to agree with all I have to say.  If you do, I may adopt you.  Even my own three sons are smart enough not to agree with all I have to say.

As well as my own commentary I will populate the site with up to the moment North American trucking news.

Most importantly I welcome comments from everyone, whether you agree or not.  Voice your own opinions on the topics within, or suggest new topics.  Believe it or not, I want to hear even from those who strongly disagree.  The only thing I ask is respect.  No foul language, no name calling, no  simply spouting vitriolic garbage, those comments will not even see the public screen.

You can accuse me of censorship if you like, but keep in mind, it’s my blog, and on my blog I’m the boss.  I really do want to hear your opinions though, so take a few minutes to think it through before you comment, be polite, use polite language and read over what you’ve written (preferably out loud) before you hit the “Submit Comments” button.

If you like the content of this blog but don’t have the time or can’t always remember to come back and read new posts, by all means, put your email address in the box in the top right hand corner of any page on the site, and subscribe to the RSS feed by email.  Then new posts and comments will automatically show up in your inbox.  You may unsubscribe at any time with a simple click on the link in any of the emails.

I look forward to your feedback.
